EU Space Days 2026: Hellas Sat Powers the Official GOVSATCOM Demonstration
Secure Satellite Connectivity for Crisis Response
At EU Space Days 2026 in Nicosia, Hellas Sat participated in the official GOVSATCOM demonstration, showcasing how secure satellite communications can support emergency response operations when terrestrial networks are unavailable or degraded.
The live demonstration highlighted the growing role of space technologies in strengthening operational resilience and ensuring continuous connectivity during crisis situations. Moreover, the event brought together European institutions, public authorities and industry stakeholders to explore the future of secure satellite communications across Europe.
A Live Cross-Border Emergency Scenario
As part of the official demonstration programme, Hellas Sat supported a realistic cross-border wildfire response scenario.
The exercise featured the deployment of the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) together with Hellas Sat’s satellite infrastructure. As a result, emergency teams maintained uninterrupted communications throughout the exercise.
Furthermore, the demonstration enabled:
- Secure voice communications
- Live drone video transmission
- Real-time thermal imagery
- Continuous coordination between field teams, the Hellenic National Crisis Management Coordination Center and the EU Space Days venue
The exercise demonstrated how satellite communications can maintain operational continuity even when conventional communication networks are disrupted.
GOVSATCOM in Action
The demonstration provided a practical example of the capabilities supported through the European Union Governmental Satellite Communications (GOVSATCOM) programme.
In addition, it showed how secure satellite connectivity can strengthen operational coordination between emergency responders and public authorities.
By combining the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) with Hellas Sat’s satellite network, the demonstration illustrated how resilient communications can improve situational awareness and support faster decision-making during emergency operations.
Recognised in Greece’s Official EU Space Days Coverage
Following the event, the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post of the Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance highlighted the demonstration as part of its official coverage of EU Space Days 2026.
The announcement described how the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) and Hellas Sat’s satellite infrastructure enabled secure voice communications, live drone video, thermal imaging and operational coordination throughout the demonstration.
This official reference reflects the growing importance of satellite-enabled solutions in strengthening civil protection capabilities and critical communications across Europe.
Supporting Europe’s Secure Connectivity
Through its participation in EU Space Days 2026, Hellas Sat reaffirmed its commitment to delivering secure and resilient satellite communications for governments, civil protection authorities and mission-critical operations.
As Europe continues to strengthen its emergency preparedness, satellite-enabled connectivity will play an increasingly important role in supporting crisis management, cross-border cooperation and operational resilience.
